Help Your Teen Get Prom-Ready Skin

By Heather Delaney Reese, It's a Lovely Life

I remember when I was in high school and how exciting prom time was. It started long before the dance was even on the horizon. We all wanted to look our best and it was so fun preparing for the big day. We would go to dress stores and look in magazines for the latest styles for both what we would wear, and how we wanted our hair, makeup and nails to look. It was such a fun time!

Get Your Teen's Skin Ready for Prom

Now that my oldest is a senior, it is even more fun seeing her experience prom time. I know how important this time of year is for teens, so I started helping her prepare to look and feel her best by making sure she had a good skin care regimen in place. I want her to have a carefree time without the worry of acne breakouts. I just want her to have fun!

We keep her acne breakouts under control by creating morning and nighttime rituals to keep her skin healthy and glowing every day, especially as we gear up for the big night! I know that keeping her skin looking great really builds her self-confidence too, so these steps she takes in the morning and night are very important for her all-around health and wellbeing.

Here are the tips I've shared with her to get her skin ready for the prom:

1. Create a Routine: With teens especially, routines are the best way to instill good habits. You can't go from zero to prom-ready (or graduation-ready, or job-interview-ready) in just a couple of days; instead, I taught her that you prepare for special occassions by continuing good, healthy routines that you always practice. So I sat down with my daughter and created a morning ritual that we both agreed she would enjoy and follow. From drinking water right when she woke up, to having a good, healthy breakfast before school, all these little steps play an important part in being the best version of herself so that she can conquer the world.
2. Wash Your Face: The part that she takes the most pride in is starting her day with a fresh application of makeup. She loves wearing makeup and showing her uniqueness through it.  She also knows that wearing makeup comes with the responsibility of taking care of the skin underneath it. Her morning ritual always includes washing her face with CLEAN & CLEAR® MORNING BURST® Facial Cleanser. She loves how this unique gel cleanser helps wake up her face with a fresh, citrus scent. She also loves that it contains Vitamin C and Ginseng, along with soft BURSTING BEADS® that leave her skin feeling clean and energized. Since it is recommended for everyday cleansing, it is the perfect choice for her. She says she looks forward to washing her face in the morning because she loves the citrus scent, which reminds me it really is the little things in life to help start your day on the right foot.
3. Moisturizing is a Must: I am also big on keeping skin moisturized.  I’ve taught my daughter that healthy skin is happy skin; so she uses CLEAN & CLEAR® MORNING BURST® Hydrating Gel Moisturizer after she washes her face with CLEAN & CLEAR® MORNING BURST® Facial Cleanser. When her skin is feeling extra dry, particularly when we are traveling to drier climates or taking a lot of flights, she uses it in the morning and at night. Since we want to make sure her skin is looking and feeling its best, she has been using it twice a day lately – morning and night. She loves how it makes her skin feel. Her sister who is 14 year old and has dry skin, also uses it morning and night all the time. It is really comfortable to use because it is an ultra lightweight and a non-greasy moisturizer. So even though it makes her skin feel moisturized, it doesn't feel heavy because it is formulated with water, not oil.  And it contains a unique blend of cucumber and green mango extracts, so it smells nice too.
Creating these rituals for my daughter has given a boost to her self-esteem, and the tools to help combat acne breakouts so that her skin stays beautiful and is ready for Prom!
