Treat Yourself: The 8-Step, Mom-On-The-Go, DIY Home Spa Treatment

As a busy mom, chances are that scheduling a full day at the spa is not in your foreseeable future. Still, you don’t have to forgo that invigorating post-spa glow if you can squeeze in just 15 minutes of you-time at least one night a week. Here’s a simple step-by-step routine you can follow to help revitalize your skin.

DIY Home Spa

Step 1: Turn the bathroom lights off and the shower on high. Close the bathroom door and let the steam from the running hot water transform your bathroom into a sauna while you wrap up your last to-dos. After 5 minutes, light a few candles so you can see but also find your Zen.  

Step 2: Begin removing makeup – or just the day’s grime – by cleansing your face with a gentle makeup remover or face wash. If you’re a mascara-wearer, remember to be especially gentle when wiping at those eyelids to help avoid early-onset wrinkles.

Step 3: Turn the shower temperature down to lukewarm and hop in for 5 minutes. Exfoliate from the neck down with a body scrub. Didn’t have time to stop by the store? No worries! Mix half a cup of brown sugar with half a cup of ground oats and one-quarter cup of organic olive oil. Scrub away and rinse.

Step 4: Post-exfoliation, shave your legs to shorten tomorrow morning’s prep time. Swap out that bar soap for baby oil to get a close, smooth shave.

Step 5: Out of the shower, gently towel dry and layer on your favorite body lotion. This helps keep your skin especially moisturized.  

Step 6 (optional): If a professional mani/pedi is also out of your scheduling reach, now’s the time to give those nails a bit of attention. Trimming with sharp clippers post-shower, when nails are soft but fully dry, can help prevent splitting.

With these eight simple steps, you should be feeling rejuvenated, inside and out! Consider spending a few minutes before bed meditating or snuggling in with a good book.
