4 Tips to preventing gum disease for you and your family.


Gingivitis is typically caused by one simple fact: neglected oral hygiene. While gingivitis is both mild and common, when left untreated, it can develop into periodontitis, a more serious form of gum disease. That’s why it’s important to prevent gingivitis. Here’s how.

  • Brush Regularly: Start by keeping a regular oral hygiene schedule at home; brushing at least two times a day, and flossing at least once a day.
  • Use a Mouthwash: Adding mouthwash to a brushing routine can help reduce the risk of gum disease.
  • Visit the Dentist Regularly: Your dentist may be able to spot signs of gingivitis even before you can. Make sure you have a dialogue with your dentist, ask any questions, and get their opinion.
  • Pass it On: Instilling good oral care habits early so they know the value of good oral health, and how to do it. And just like you, they should see the dentist every six months to a year; this way, you’ll maintain great oral health, and even better? The kids will be used to the dentist, and those visits won’t be such a big deal.
